JEFF WAYNE’S THE WAR OF THE WORLDS:THE IMMERSIVE EXPERIENCE

CINEMATIC TRAILERS

About the client

Dotdotdot are a London-based immersive theatre production company, founded and led by serial entrepreneur and marketing boss Andrew McGuinness. Following on from the success of 2018’s Somnai, a feature-length audience-participation immersive experience based on sleep, dreams and nightmares (for which Flashbang did the videography documenting the show’s content), dotdotdot partnered with legendary composer Jeff Wayne to bring his 1978 Musical Version of The War of the Worlds to a new generation through a two-hour immersive show, combining live actors interacting with participants, augmented reality, virtual reality, simulation, pyrotechnics and projection, all set to the soundtrack of the iconic album.

The brief

After the success of the ‘Making Of’ series Flashbang was asked to create a film-style trailer, filming audience members experiencing the show to portray what it would be like after it opened and encourage people to buy tickets.

Here are the trailers in order of release including the launch trailer which was premiered all day on loop at London MCM Comic Con on the big screen alongside major cinema releases of the month. A subsequent second trailer was commissioned six months later.

Ahead of the production commencing, we were asked to pull together a teaser episode to announce the plan for the new Immersive Experience opening in London. We came up with the concept, then directed, filmed and edited two trailers for the show.

The second trailer after the show had opened, featuring commentary by the cast and Jeff Wayne himself. Once again we came up with the concept, then directed, filmed and edited this cinematic trailer.

We also created optimised versions for social media

To enable more people to view video content, it should be much shorter in length, so of course all our videographic content needs to work as a 30 second piece as well. Here are the two above trailers in their short form, which is a service we provide for all videography we do so that you can get your content to as many people as possible.
